Okay so I'm working up this other sketch of The Question and it occured to me that the composition was lacking when I started. I actually took a scene from Justice League Unlimited where Question is looking at his Board O' Conspiracy, and sketched it out with very little changes, and quite a degree less detail, instead focusing on the figure and the board and clippings. Then I wanted to throw this shadow into the mix so I expanded the canvas enough to fit that in there, and ended up with (a) from above. After tweaking things a bit more and getting the basic shapes and vectors finished I realized this shot was way too loose, so I crop it down to (b) which is maybe a little better, (you'll note I didn't change the borders at all) but still not quite there. I hate losing some of the detail cause I had fun doing the little posties, which were really just rectangles tweaked for shadow and angle, but I get a kick out of Simple things... Anyway, after (b) it dawned on me that it sort of BEGGED for insert panels, ala' a comic book, but as there's no story behind the image, other than my sudden obsession with The Question, I have no idea what to sketch into the inserts. (c) was bringing the cropping in even more to make it feel more stand alone, but now I'm sort of attached to the idea of throwing some inserts into the mix. First I thought clenched fist- Angry! Question filled with adorable paranoid rage, also because old Q wears gloves and it'd be a fun b&w close up to do, but the stance in the scene doesn't really suggest that. Next, If you're familiar with the the Question, you might realize the difficulty in doing a close-up of his face- or rather, his lack there of, but I may be game for that, we'll have to see. Then there's always a close up of whatever news clipping he's looking at, but what kinda can of worms would I open then? It would suggest a whole PLOT.. bah! Can't have that. Then I start thinking, I did pretty much lift this thing from JLU and in the end, while reproduction is a useful skill sometimes, the fact that I didn't change the stance at all started to bug me. Somehow, somewhere I know I'm probably raking in bad Karma by not just doing my own non Bruce Timm version. But it's such a cool over the shoulder shot and when I started with the board and posties I couldn't get it out of my head. So really, yeah, not sure what I'm going to do with this, but any advice is welcome.

EDIT: Okay I added (d) because it occured to me to expand it and I got some feedback that liked the shadow... SO the additional cluttler was added sort of haphazardly, but I think it looks good for a widescreen background. Thoughts?

re EDIT: Okay changing this cause I thought I'd done so all ready, someone was looking for a full-sized of the thing, so here it is as a 10x7 bg.
